I want to draw the attention of anyone interested in weaving to the incredible work of Faig Ahmed of Baku, Azerbaijan. His major medium is Persian rugs, which become incredible sculptural works under his direction. He doesn't weave them himself -- he employs expert craftswomen for that -- but he is involved in every step of the process, from dyeing to warping to trimming to finishing, and he puts an incredible amount of work into designing these pieces.
Check out a few of my favorites, the ones that make my heart soar and my eyes tear up.
Door of Doors
Seriously, go check out all of his work.
